These procedures apply to students enrolling in college credit programs.

  • After you've completed your Application for Admission online be sure to complete the process to REGISTER at TSTC. Follow the checklist below and you're on your way to becoming a TSTC student.

  • Once the application has been submitted, report promptly any changes to the information in it (for example, name, address, starting term, major, etc.).

  • Depending on the category under which the applicant qualifies for admission, submit the following additional documents:

    • High school graduate: an official copy of high school transcript

    • College or university transfer: official transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended previously

    • GED: a copy of GED certificate or official score report

    • Individual approval students: individual approval form

  • Exceptional admission students:

  • Age 16 or older and currently enrolled in high school without a diploma or GED, or age 16 or older and a graduate of an unaccredited or home high school: exceptional admission form signed by parent or guardian and high school representative; qualifying scores in writing and/or reading and/or mathematics on approved assessment instruments
  • Age 16 and no longer attending high school, or age 15 or younger: exceptional admission form signed by parent of guardian and high school representative; qualifying scores in writing, reading, and mathematics. (Note: An information session with a TSTC official is also required. Contact the appropriate Admissions Office for more information.)
  • International students: see “International Students” for details
  • If you are claiming Texas residency for tuition purposes, you may need to submit a document (i.e. driver's license) that shows you have resided in the state for 12 months prior to registration.

  • Academic Transcripts: Submit official high school transcript or GED certificate and all official college transcripts, if applicable, to the College Records Office. Financial Aid cannot be processed for students whose files lack official transcripts.

  • If you have not met with a TSTC counselor in the Counseling & Testing Center, you will need to do so prior to registration. Please allow at least three hours for testing and registration. If you have taken a state approved test, bring a copy of your test scores and a copy of your college transcripts for the counselor and your adviser to review for registration and scheduling.

    • All TSTC students, unless exempt or TSI waived, must take an approved test for TSI before enrolling at TSTC. If you have attended another college, an evaluation of your transcript by a Success Coach or Counselor may be enough.
    • If you are exempt from testing based on scores from the following approved tests: Accuplacer, ACT, ASSET, Compass, SAT, TAKS or THEA, further testing will not be required. You must provide a copy of your scores for evaluation by a Success Coach or Counselor prior to registration. If you are unable to provide your scores, you will be required to take an approved test for academic placement prior to registration. TSTC's Testing or Assessment Centers administer the Accuplacer as its placement test. Please contact the testing office at the TSTC of your choice.
  • All students enrolling for the first time at the TSTC Harlingen campus, including transitory college transfer students coming to TSTC for a mini-summer session, are required to complete New Student Orientation, either online or in person.
