Tests

As you begin planning for college, you will need to take the Accuplacer Test if you have not taken the THEA (TASP) test prior to enrollment. The Accuplacer is a placement test to assess your abilities in reading, writing, and math. This test typically takes 2-3 hours to complete, however, the test in not timed. Since it helps us to assess your current level of learning, all students are required to take the Accuplacer Test during the admission process and prior to registration, or provide alternate test scores such as Compass and Asset.  *There is a 30 day waiting period to retest for same portion of the exam.

 Fee:  $30 ($10 per section)

The Testing Center is open for Accuplacer testing Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays. Testing will be held in the Student Center, room 127. Hours are as follows:

Monday, Tuesday, & Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (MUST arrive no later than 1:30 PM)

Wednesday: No Accuplacer testing; GED testing only

Thursday: 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM (MUST arrive no later than 6:00 PM)

Saturday: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (MUST arrive no later than 9:00 AM)

Ability to Benefit (ATB)

ATB is administered to students wishing to enroll in the College, but have not completed their high school diploma or GED.

*After initial test, two-week waiting period to retest; further attempts require three-month waiting period

College Level Examination Program (CLEP) - Appointment Required                                                  

CLEP is the most widely used credit-by-examination program today:  2,900 accredited colleges and universities grant credit for satisfactory scores on CLEP exams. CLEP credits will not be awarded for any courses in which a student is currently enrolled, has been previously enrolled, and/or earned a grade, or has previously failed.  *Six-month waiting period to retest. 

** CLEP Examinations are for TSTC credit ONLY. Each Institution has its own credit-granting policy

KUDER  – No Appointment Required

 Are you confused on what you want to study? Kuder assessments’ is the answer for you. Kuder assessments allows students to learn about themselves, explore various career options and discover how these options relate to their interests, skills, and work values. 

If you are interested in taking a KUDER assessment, please come to our Testing Center located at the Student Center room 138. Assessment is about 30 minutes long.

Fee:  FREE


Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET) - No Appointment Required 

HOBET is an entrance test administered to students interested in enrolling in the Medical Assistant and Surgical Technology programs.  *One-year waiting period to retest

Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) 

TEAS is an entrance test administered to students interested in enrolling in the LVN program and Dental Hygiene Program.

Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA)

Proctoring - Appointment Required

GED tests are a battery of five tests that, when passed, certify the taker has high school-level academic skills.  Only individuals who have not earned a high school diploma may take the GED tests. *Six-month waiting period to retest
