TSTC and WCJC Partnership

The Fort Bend Technical Center first opened its doors in August 2001 at 5333 F.M.1640 in Richmond, Texas. The state-of-the-art technical facility provides targeted curriculum plans in one of the country's fastest-growing areas. Texas State Technical College, Wharton County Junior College, the cities of Richmond and Rosenberg, Lamar Consolidated Independent School District, and Wharton and Fort Bend Counties worked together to open the center. Courses available focus on a variety of certificate and degree programs specifically tailored to meet industry and business needs in the Gulf Coast community.

In 2014, the Fort Bend Community asked Texas State Technical College to build a new campus, as large as legacy campuses in Waco and Harlingen. The vision is for a campus able to serve 4,000-5,000 students. To expand course offerings and meet the needs of the local workforce, TSTC and WCJC entered into a 75-year agreement allowing TSTC to expand its technical offerings to programs not offered by WCJC in Fort Bend County. In the new Fort Bend County higher education facility, Wharton County Junior College will continue to provide academic instruction and TSTC will provide technical instruction. Students can complete a certificate, an associate degree or transfer to one of several university partners to complete a bachelor's degree.
