The TSI ASSESSMENT test is a computer adaptive test. It is administered on a walk-in basis within the times listed below. The average length of test time is approximately 3-5 hours for the Reading, Math, Essay and Sentence Skills.Once the Writing portion of the exam is started, it must be completed in one sitting. A student may not stop the Writing portion of the exam and return to finish it at a later time and/or day. Please make sure that you have enough time to complete the entire exam before arriving at the Texas State Technical College – Harlingen Testing Center.
Unless otherwise exempt, each undergraduate student who enters a public institution of higher education must be tested for reading, writing and mathematics skills prior to enrolling in any course work. For these initial testing purposes, TSTC-Harlingen uses the TSI ASSESSMENT, which is a required test instrument prescribed by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for TSI testing.
Test Center requirements for taking the TSI ASSESSMENT:
Step 1. Submit an application for admissions prior to testing
Step 2. Verify TSI status on campus
Bring copies of your official transcripts with any proof of exemption or waiver, if applicable, to the Advisement Center or Testing Office in the Student Services Center. Testing Referral Form will be provided.
Testing hours can be found here.
NOTE: Students who are required to take all three sections of the TSI Assessment often perform better on each section if they take each one on a different day.
Step 4. Pay testing fees
Take your Testing Referral Form obtained at the Advisement Center to the Cashier. Pay your testing fees to the Cashier's office in the Student Services Center. Each section of the test is $12, or it is $36 for all three sections. Be sure to save your printed receipt as proof you paid.

No food, drinks or calculators are allowed into the lab. ALL electronic devices, including cell phones, MUST be turned to silent mode or completely off.
Please be aware that testing labs are monitored by cameras.
