CNST Advisory Committee

Texas State Technical College was created by the Texas Legislature and mandated to carry out technical and vocational training for which there is a demand in the state. In order to carry out this mandate, the College identifies technical and vocational needs and designs and develops educational programs to meet these needs.

To ensure that programs are relevant to the community, address current industry standards, meet workforce needs, and have appropriate resources to support high quality student outcomes, Advisory Committees are required for each technical program.

Our Advisory Committee consists of a distinguished group of professionals who provide us feedback and advice designed to ensure that program curriculum is relevant, up-to-date and focused on best practices in the industries we serve. Their knowledge of training needs and worker competencies is invaluable to our program.

The input of the Advisory Committee enables the department to identify training requirements, as mandated by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The Committee's input is necessary to the process of defining the job skills and knowledge required to train highly-qualified workers with the professional skills for immediate employment in the fields of computer network support, administration, and security.

The responsibilities of Advisory Committee members to the CNST Program are to:

  • Attend annual meetings, held every Fall Semester
  • Assist in comparison of content with occupational competencies and tasks
  • Assist in the development of strategies to recruit non-traditional students and expand placement opportunities
  • Assist in identification of entry-level job openings, cooperative work, internships, work study, or job shadowing experience opportunities for students
  • Review and recommend curriculum changes (courses, course content, sequence, and technology used) to ensure that it meets business needs and industry standards
  • Provide advice on labor market needs and trends, and on the incorporation of employ-ability skills in the curriculum
  • Endorse new program applications as appropriate
  • Act as an advocate for the program initiatives within the community and industry

In return, the CNST Program promises Committee Members:

  • An appreciation of member’s time and commitment
  • An opportunity to continue to shape the future of the information technology and cybersecurity industry
  • An opportunity to review and participate in new perspectives and ideas
  • Satisfaction for contributions made to the development of our profession and industry

The CNST Advisory Committee meets annually before or during the Fall Semester.
