Educational Talent Search
College Assistance for Student Talent (CAST) also known as Educational Talent Search is a free college awareness program funded by the Department of Education. Educational Talent Search is one of eight TRIO programs that were authorized by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 in response to President Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty.
Our mission is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds to complete high school and enroll in and complete their post-secondary education. The program identifies and selects students who meet the federal low income guidelines and are first generation college students (neither parent has received a bachelor’s degree). This early intervention program follows 500 participants from 6th to 12th grade helping students and parents better understand educational opportunities. Participants must be willing to commit and participate in Talent Search until high school graduation.
