DO I HAVE TO COME TO ORIENTATION?

Yes, Orientation is mandatory. If you do not attend Orientation, you will not be able to register for classes.

WHEN IS THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION?

You must register two weeks before the selected Orientation date.

WHY SHOULD I ATTEND ORIENTATION?

Orientation is required prior to registration for classes. New Student Orientation is designed to help you make the transition into college as smooth as possible. It will help calm your nerves, answer any questions you might have and get you prepared for the many exciting challenges that await you at TSTC.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE ORIENATION?

Orientation is the last step in becoming a TSTC student. It is your responsibility to complete the Admissions process and testing requirements. A student will not be allowed to register for Orientation if there are pending issues with The Office of Admissions & Records (956) 364-4000 or Testing Office (956) 364-4997.

DO I NEED TO MEET WITH AN ADVISOR BEFORE ORIENTATION?

No, at the end of Orientation the student will meet with the program advisor and will then be allowed to register for classes.

New Student Orientation Dates.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR ORIENTATION?

Once the Admissions Application, GED/High School or College transcripts and Bacterial Meningitis (if applicable) have been submitted you can contact the Student Recruitment Office (956) 364-4117 or (956) 364-4128 to register for Orientation.

WHEN CAN I REGISTER FOR CLASSES?

At the end of Orientation, you will have a one-on-one meeting with the Academic/Program Advisor.

IS THERE A FEE TO REGISTER FOR ORIENTATION?

No, there is no fee for Orientation.

DO I HAVE TO STAY FOR THE ENTIRE ORIENTATION?

Yes. If you leave Orientation early, you will need to notify the staff at Orientation and will be advised on how to complete the registration process.

WILL LUNCH BE PROVIDED?

Yes. A 30 minute lunch is provided for you.

DO I NEED TO PAY FOR MY LUNCH MEAL?

No. It is provided free of charge.

IF I WAS A DUAL-ENROLLMENT STUDENT IN HIGH SCHOOL; DO I STILL HAVE TO ATTEND ORIENTATION?

Yes. You are considered a first-time student, you will need to attend Orientation as well.

WHO CAN ATTEND ORIENTATION?

Due to capacity only the student that has registered for Orientation can attend.

WHAT DO I NEED THE DAY OF ORIENTATION?

You will need a valid picture I.D. (Ex: High School ID, Texas ID, Drivers License, Temperary License Card, Passport, Residency Card or Military ID.)

CAN MY PARENTS ATTEND ORIENTATION?

Only the student registered is allowed to attend the New Student Orientation. There is a one-time Parent Orientation where parents can attend.

HOW EARLY CAN I ARRIVE TO ORIENTATION?

Orientation starts at 8:30 a.m. We recommend you arrive at 8 a.m. due to the sign-in process. A picture ID is required upon sign-in.

DOES TRANSFER, RETURNING OR UNDERGRAD STUDENTS NEED TO ATTEND ORIENTATION?

Yes.

IF I MISSED MY ON-CAMPUS ORIENTATION DATE; CAN I ATTEND THE NEXT ONE?

Yes. You will need to reschedule the Orientation by contacting the Student Recruitment Office at (956) 364-4117 or (956) 364-4128.

HOW DO I GET TO CAMPUS?

If you are driving on Expwy 83 from the McAllen area, take the exit US-77 N/Raymondville/Corpus Christi. Once on US-77, approximately 2.5 miles ahead you will exit US-77 BUS/TX-499 Loop/Primera Rd, at the stop sign take a right. You are now on Loop 499, drive approximately 3.5 miles on Loop 499, and finally you will take a right on Raintree St. You will see the Cultural Arts Center on your left. 

If you are driving on Expy 83 from the Brownsville area, take the exit Farm to Market Rd 801W/TX-499 Loop E/Ed Carey Dr/New Hampshire St. Turn right onto N Ed Care Dr and drive approximately 4.5 miles ahead. Finally turn left onto Raintree St. You will see the Cultural Arts Center on your left.

WHERE CAN I PARK?

There is free parking available at the Cultural Arts Center. If needed, you can park across Raintree St. in the Harlingen Museum.

WHERE DO GUESTS STAY?

Anyone not registered to attend New Student Orientation will not be admitted in the orientation session. Guests are welcome to stay in the lobby area.

I TRIED TO REGISTER FOR CLASSES, BUT I AM BLOCKED. WHY?

There could be several reasons. Did you complete Admissions requirements for TSTC? Did you leave Orientation early without notifying a staff member?
