New Student Enrollment Checklist


As a new or transfer student, there are a number of things that you to submit in order to successfully register at TSTC. If at any point in the process you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.

1.  Submit your TSTC Application online at www.tstc.edu or PDF

Please allow 1-2 weeks for your acceptance letter to be mailed to you once you have submitted the admissions application. Once received, you will receive instructions on how to access your TSTC account online which also contains your TSTC ID, TSTC email, Username and Password. For more information on your application status, contact the Admissions Office at 956.364.4320

2.  Submit Official Transcript(s) (HS, College or GED)

Submit official college transcripts for any college coursework previously taken, if applicable. You may personally bring in the official transcripts, have the previous college send it by mail or online through the National Clearing House. No faxed or emailed transcripts will be accepted. Must come in a sealed envelope and is to be submitted to the Admissions Office 956.364.4320 (see additional steps below). 

3.  Submit proof of Bacterial Meningitis vaccination (for students under age 22)

Proof of meningitis needs to be submitted to the Admissions Office 956.364.4320 or Fax to 956.364.5117. When submitting any documents, please include your TSTC ID # if available.

4.  Complete Applicable TSI Requirements

Provide TSI scores, Exemptions or Waivers to Testing & Advisement Office Room 312 or call 956.364.4310.

Note: TSI test is only required for:

  • Certificiate Level II - program with more than 42 credit hrs
  • AAS Degrees - 2 years technical programs with 42 - 60 credit hrs
  • AS Degrees - Biology, Computer science, Engineering, Math & Physics 

Other acceptable tests (must have passing scores)

  • STARR EOC: English III Level 2/2000, Algebra II Level 2/4000
  • TAKS: Reading 2200, Writing 2200 & Essay 3, Math 2200 (good for 5 yrs)
  • ACT: Math 19, English 19, Composite 23 or
  • SAT: Math 500, Critical Reading 500, Composite 1070 

5.  Complete Financial Obligation Agreement

*Log into the portal.tstc.edu and on the left hand side, click on Webadvisor for Students, then "Financial Information" finally "Student Financial Obligation Agreement". Take a moment to read the agreement and once complete, check off "I agree" and then submit. Click here for instructions.

6.  Apply for Financial Aid (if applicable)

Apply for financial aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Please add TSTC codes: 009225 & 003634. For questions regarding your Financial Aid status please contact 956.364.4330.

7.  Register for & attend New Student Orientation (NSO)

Must complete the steps that apply to you mentioned above (1-5) in order to register for NSO. To register please contact 956.364.4117.

8.  Register for Classes

When you attend "New Student Orientation" you will have the opportunity to register for classes with your program/academic advisor unless your program specifies differently. 

9.  Make payments (to the Student Accounting Office)

Additional Steps (if applicable):

If you are claiming Texas residency for tuition purposes, additional documentation may be needed that shows you have resided in the state for 12 months prior to registration.

Academic Transcripts: Submit official high school transcript or GED certificate and all official college transcripts, if applicable, to the Admissions & Records Office. Financial Aid cannot be processed for students whose files lack official transcripts.

Campus Housing: If you are required to live on campus or you are interested in single student or family housing, forward the completed Housing Application along with required deposit or contact the Housing Office for an application.

Support Services: The Support Services Office reflects TSTC Harlingen's commitment to meeting the special needs of individual students. This office coordinates with community assistance programs and serves as a resource for the Special Population Community of students which is defined as: Qualified Single Parents, Displaced Homemakers, Single expectant Mothers, Students Pursuing a Non-Traditional Program of Study and Qualified Disabled Students.

All new students are assigned to a Recruitment Specialist. The Recruitment Specialist will assist students with the completion of the admissions process. If you do not know your Recruitment Specialist, call 956/364-4101.
