Program Chair Alicia Lugo  

Alicia Lugo, RN, BSN
Program Chair/Senior Instructor

Ms. Lugo obtained both her AAS and BS degrees in Nursing from the University of Texas- Brownsville. She has been an instructor at TSTC for 25 years. She taught with the Surgical Technology Program for 15 years, and for the Nurse Assistant/ Dual Enrollment Program and Medical Assistant Programs for the last 9 years.  In addition to this, Ms. Lugo also teaches for the HITT and MIS programs. Ms. Lugo also formerly graduated from the TSTC Surgical Technology Program in 1982 and worked for a local hospital and an ENT/Plastic Surgery Clinic for 7 years.

She has served as a volunteer for the Valley AIDS Council for 24 years and helps coordinate the yearly Christmas toy drive as well as several other activities for that organization. She was recently honored with the prestigious Silva Award for 20 years of service to VAC. She is also involved with Relay for Life and other charitable organizations.

 

 Valdez

Cinthya Valdez, CMA (AAMA), AAS

Instructor/Clinical Coordinator

Ms. Valdez is a graduate of the Medical Assistant Associate Degree Program at TSTC. She is also a member of the AAMA, American Association of Medical Assistants. She has been working in the medical field since 2009 in several specialties such as; Pediatrics, Urgent Care, Cardiology, Endocrinology and Gastroenterology. She is an experienced CMA, and has a lot to share with our students. She has been working with the program since Fall of 2012, and she is excited about expanding our program to cover the demands of the medical field. Her favorite motivational phrase is "If you think it is difficult... it is because you are learning it well!"

 Jessica Juarez

Jessica Juarez, CNA, CMA (AAMA)

Program Maintenance Specialist

Miss Juarez graduated from the Nurse Assistant Program at Texas State Technical College her senior year of High School with the goal of working in the Labor and Delivery department. She completed one year of experience at a nursing home, and then transferred to Valley Baptist Hospital where she was hired to work in the Newborn Nursery/Mother Baby Unit. She wanted to gain more knowledge about the medical field and gain more marketable skills to have confidence to work on other floors that required the need to draw blood, sterilize instruments, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform basic laboratory test on the premises, prepare patients for x-rays, electrocardiograms, remove sutures, etc.

To do so, Miss Juarez completed the Medical Assistant Program at T.S.T.C while working 12 hr. night shift at the hospital, and was able to float to various department floors such as Labor & Delivery, Pediatrics, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Oncology, Post Cardiac Care Unit, Acute Rehabilitation Unit (etc.). She has been working in the medical field since 2006, as a Certified Nurse Assistant , then as a Certified Medical Assistant. She is a member of the AAMA and has been working with T.S.T.C. since summer 2013.
