TSTC Students Named to President's List

One hundred and fifty academic standouts were named to the President’s List for the Fall 2012 semester at Texas State Technical College.

The President’s List recognizes the academic achievements of students who are enrolled in college full-time, taking 12 or more credit hours for the semester, and have earned a perfect 4.0 Term GPA. The Vice-President’s list recognizes the academic achievements of students who are enrolled full-time and taking 12 or more credit hours for the semester and have earned a 3.5-3.99 Term GPA.

As a result of their hard work and academic excellence, these students open doors of opportunity for themselves. These include: 1) increasing their chances of being eligible to apply for different scholarships, 2) becoming eligible to apply for mentor and tutor positions on campus, which require students to maintain a 3.0 Term and Cumulative GPA, 3) increasing their chances of getting accepted into allied health programs and other programs that may require higher academic standards, and 4) increasing their chances of getting accepted to a university. Additionally, making the President’s List is an academic recognition students can include on a job application or their Resumé.

“When recruiting tutors and mentors, we often go to the President’s or Vice-President’s List since we know they have the grades, knowledge, and discipline to excel academically,” Director of Student Success Norma Salazar said.“ As a matter of fact, I can tell you that several of our tutors made the President’s list this past fall semester. Achieving academic excellence can also have a positive domino effect when it comes to their career, as has been the case for some of our tutors and mentors who have been hired by school districts and even TSTC right after graduation.”

Salazar added that an honor like making the President’s or Vice-President’s list can have a lasting impact.

“The college transcript speaks volumes about the student,” she said. “It’s a reflection of their knowledge and dedication to their studies, both of which equip students with the tools they need to succeed not just in college, but in life.”
