TSTC, RGV Metro Add Two Stops to Existing Routes
Monday, March 4, 2013
Texas State Technical College and Rio Grande Valley Metro are teaming up again to make life easier for TSTC students. Beginning this month, two bus stops on campus will be added to two different routes.
Route 41, which covers TSTC, LeMoyne Gardens, K-Mart, Sun Valley Mall, the VTC bus station in downtown Harlingen, the Harlingen Public Library and Valle Vista Mall, will add a stop on Raintree Street. The stop will be adjacent to the Automotive Building and provide easy access to the new Engineering Technology Center and Buildings B, C, D, G and W.
There won’t be a bus shelter at this stop for the time being.
The second stop will be added to Route 45 which covers TSTC, San Benito, Los Fresnos, Brownsville and UTB. This stop will be on the north side of the Student Center, allowing students to wait at there.
RGVM and TSTC recently agreed to offer TSTC students and employees free bus fare and TSTC Associate Vice President of Administrative Services Charles D. Smith the added bus stops helps make students’ experience at the Harlingen college more convenient.
“We’re looking at parking, pedestrian improvements and public transit as complementary parts of our long-term efforts to meet the TSTC president’s strategic plan,” Smith said. “By integrating our approach to these things, we think that we are helping to build a stress-free campus environment that encourages students to spend more time on campus and to get involved (in clubs and activities). Studies have shown that involvement is one of the surest paths to degree completion. “Get in, get out, get hired’ is more than an advertising slogan. It’s what TSTC is all about.”
