TSTC Holds Financial Aid Fair

Their purpose is simply to help.
The Texas State Technical College Financial Aid Office will host a Financial Aid Fair over two days to facilitate current and future students’ application process with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The fair will take place on March 19 for current students from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on March 21 for new students from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The fair will be held at the Consolidated Student Services Building.
“It’s an opportunity for students within the college community to have professional financial aid personnel help them fill out their FAFSA,” TSTC Director of Financial Aid Fred Pena said. “We’re dedicating those days to helping current and new students with their applications and to answer any questions they might have.”
The Financial Aid Fair isn’t new to TSTC but in 2006, the school joined a national campaign that helped students with similar issues. This year Pena said the school decided to bring back the fair and are using it for recruitment purposes as well.
Aside from help with FAFSA, students and their parents will also get an opportunity to visit with representatives from different programs of study from across campus. Different clubs and organizations are also invited to set up booths and recruit new students.
A representative from United Way will be on hand to help parents of new students fill out tax returns, which Pena said are essential to the completion of the FAFSA. He said families with a yearly income below $51,000 could get help filling out 1040A and 1040EZ tax return forms.
Pena said four scholarships will also be given away totaling $1,000. Two $250 scholarships will be awarded on Tuesday and two more on Thursday. The scholarships were donated by the Harlingen Area Teachers Credit Union, Chick-Fil-A and Knapp Medical Center.
