TSTC Hosts 4th Annual Sexual Assault Awareness Silent Walk

Saturday, April 6, 2013
By Eladio Jaimez

Silent WalkRepresentatives from Texas State Technical College and the Family Crisis Center hit the pavement at TSTC on Thursday in the Fourth Annual Sexual Assault Awareness Gathering and Silent Walk across campus to raise awareness of sexual assault and pass out information to onlookers.

The group met at the LRC’s Orientation Room where TSTC President Cesar Maldonado read a proclamation declaring April Sexual Awareness Month in Harlingen on behalf of Harlingen Mayor Chris Boswell. Maldonado addressed the room after reading the proclamation.

“This is a joint effort,” Maldonado said. “We need to work together in order to yield success.

A group of approximately 30 supporters walked from the LRC through the cafeteria through the mall and into Building W. Along the way, the group held signs that read different facts about sexual assault.

The marchers left Building W and returned to the Cafeteria where the march ended.

Activities are planned the rest of the month in observance of Sexual Awareness Month at TSTC.
