Texas State Technical College Vocational Nursing student Jeremy Rocha didn't waste any time getting to know his potential employers.
Moving from table to table, Rocha met and talked to representatives from area hospitals and clinics at the TSTC Spring Job Fair last week.
"I think this is a great opportunity for all TSTC students to come and meet these potential employers and see what they're looking for," Rocha said. "TSTC has been very helpful and the office of Career Services has gone above and beyond to help its students find a job after graduation.
Nearly 60 employers were on hand to meet with students ready to graduate and recent graduate from TSTC.
Bechtel Corporation – a global engineering, construction and project management company – recently located an office on the TSTC campus.
Since January, the company has interviewed and trained welders from the Welding Technology (WLT) Program and was one of the popular tables at the job fair.
Bechtel Industry Relations Manager Lourdes Carrasco said the company has already sent 15 welders to work on projects but the company is looking for more.
Carrasco praised the WLT and other programs on campus and was looking forward to educating job-seekers on the advantages of working for Bechtel.
"Our company cares about the well-being of its employees and we give them an opportunity for growth," Carrasco said. "There's always opportunity for growth with us."
Fernando Morales of Zapata is a fifth-semester student with the Auto Collision Technology (AUB) Program. Morales is getting ready to graduate next month and left the job fair with a good idea of what awaits him after graduation.
"Our instructors have done a great job of getting us ready for the workforce," Morales said. "Coming here and meeting with these people wasn't difficult because we've been getting prepared."
Rocha also credited the office of Career Services for helping students get ready for the job fair and the job-finding process in general.
"We did some mock interviews about two weeks ago and those proved to be very helpful," Rocha said. "They've ensured that when we go looking for a job or on a job interview, we will be successful."
