Access to Success Mentoring Program

a2s

The Access to Success (A2S) Mentoring Program is designed to assist in the social, personal, and academic acclimation to TSTC Harlingen by pairing incoming first-year or current students with outstanding individuals that have been on campus for several semesters. Our main goal is to help students take advantage of all the opportunities this college has to offer and help them adjust and navigate through college.

Some of the more common areas in which we help our students include:

  • Navigating Moodle, WebAdvisor, MyMail Mentoring Program
  • Developing a Resumé
  • Looking for a Job
  • Developing a Plan for Success (goal-setting)
  • Completing Scholarship Applications
  • Renewing FAFSA
  • College Enrollment Assistance
  • Calculating your Term GPA & Completion Rate
  • Navigating through college
.....and much more!!

What is Mentoring?

"Mentoring can be defined as a supportive relationship between an apprentice and an experienced individual."

The purpose of having a mentor in college is to assist students with the challenges that they may stumble upon during their college years. Each student is paired up with a qualified mentor that acts not only as a role model but also as a resource. This means that students have a ready resource for questions ranging from how to get involved on campus to who their program advisor is. In short, the A2S Mentoring Program provides academic and personal support for participating students during their challenging years of college.

Are you interested in being a Mentor?

We are always looking for students who have an interest in helping other students navigate through college.

Here are a few things to keep in mind...

You must be currently enrolled at TSTC and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 after earning at least 24 credit hours with courses taken in a class setting, not online.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please stop by the Learning Resource Center, 2nd floor and speak to the Advisor.
