As a graduate of the Basic Machining program, you can look forward to numerous outstanding career opportunities with responsibilities that include machining precision components for production, creating prototypes and operating conventional or computer-controlled machines. Graduates of the Basic Machining program hold a title of machine operator.

Employers want technicians who can:

  • Communicate effectively;
  • Continue to build skills and knowledge;
  • Efficiently operate precision machine tools;
  • Read and understand manufacturing drawings; and
  • Demonstrate an understanding of various types of engineering material.

The Technical Advantage:

While at TSTC Marshall, Basic Machining students use many types of equipment and software to gain the competitive edge. These include:

  • Lathes and milling machines;
  • CNC machining centers;
  • CNC turning centers; and more.

Professional Associations:

Basic Machining students are exposed to established professionals through the program's industry partners and advisory committees. Professional organizations such as the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
