Texas State Technical College Marshall offers a welding certificate that focuses on combination welding practices used in industry today. The program provides hands-on welding, layout, and fitting skills that are presently used and practiced in today's technology advanced workforce. Extensive training in welding processes, oxy-fuel welding and cutting, shielded metal arc (SMAW) and gas metal arc (GMAW) provides the students with advance insight in understanding how the welding processes work and why certain welding processes are used. As a graduate, you may go to work as a welder in general fabrication shops, on construction sites, in pressure vessel shops or shipyards.

In less than one year the student has skills and knowledge required for the welder qualification test for the American Welding Society.

OSHA 10 Hour Safety Certification will be required through the milestone or capstone course (pending advisory committee approval).

Combination Welding Program Outcomes:

Graduates of the Combination Welding Certificate will:

  • Will be able to interpret blueprints and interpret verbal orders, including weld symbols in order to fabricate using tools of the welding trade.
  • Grasp the special properties and differences in metal composition and the uses of various metals in creating and/or repairing parts and equipment using welding technology.
  • Will not only be able to operate welding and flame cutting equipment, but have acquired life and work skills to be successful in the workforce, to include following all safety procedures relative to welding and fabrication operations, and utilization of effective and accurate written and oral communication skills.
