Career Services Holds Fall Industry Career Day
The Career Service Office held its Fall Semester Industry Career Day on Thursday, October 24th in the Visitor’s Entrance and Hallways of the South Building. There were 21 attending companies from around the East Texas area and there were also two companies from Dallas who attended, DAP Inc. and DFW Movers and Erectors. The Career Service Office used a new “Swipe In” software for checking in students to the event using their Tech One Student ID Cards. Instead of having to fill out the sign in sheet and a door prize slip, students just swiped their card into the card reader and were automatically checked into the event and registered for the door prizes. For the most part, the system worked, although there were a few cards that weren’t able to be read. In all, there were 140 students who checked into the event and several faculty and staff who attended as well.
Attending companies were as follows: Network Communications, Longview Computer Center, Horseshoe and Harrah’s Casinos, Oncor Electric, DFW Movers and Erectors, DAP Inc., Watco Companies, Stone Bridge Personnel, Fastenal, AEP SWEPCO, International Paper, Manpower, Niagara Bottling, Louisiana CAT, WarFab, 1st Choice Personnel, Norbord, Harrison County, Trinity Rail, and Plastipak. STAR Sponsors for the event were: Trinity Rail, Manpower, Watco, Norbord, Fastenal, and Warfab. With their donations, the Career Service Office was able to purchase two iPad2s that were given away as the grand door prizes for the event. The winners of the iPads were Tyler Smith and Rosa Gutierrez. Other great door prizes were also given away, many of them donated from our attending companies.
The Career Service Office would like to thank JoAnn Raymond, Kenneth Culberson, Raymond Dunn, Michelle Ates, and Elaine Frazier for all their help in making this event run smooth. Thank yous also go to Te’Otis Perry and Andy Schumann for their help as Student Ambassadors and welcoming our guests to the campus and showing them around.
The next Industry Career Day will be held during the Spring Semester on March 27, 2014 and will be held in conjunction with the College Transfer Fair.
