Leadership Institute Starts Mentor Program
As part of the TSTC Leadership Institute, Hubert Staten, Nathan Cleveland, and Natalie Strahan are excited to introduce a new program to our campus. We, along with all TSTC campuses around the state, will be piloting a mentor program to promote student success in the spring. The mentorship program began in January and will continue for the remainder of the spring semester.
The mentorship program targeted students who are struggling academically, or are in their first semester and matched them with an on-campus mentor. Mentors include Holly Cantu, Ron Case, Chasidy Guthrie, Brett Bright, Benji Cantu, Christi Alderman, Michelle Ates, Jessica Ford, Mary Dorris, April Graham, Baily Briggs, Wayne Dillon, Dorothy Meadows, Elaine Frazier, Annette Ellis, Danyelle Jackson, Nathan Cleveland, Hubert Staten, and Natalie Strahan. The goal of the program is to provide students with a support person to encourage student persistence and success while at TSTC.
The program kick-off luncheon, entitled the “Big Crazy Event” was held on January 17. Students and mentors were matched up at that time. Mentors are required to reach out to their assigned student at least once a month to check on their progress and help them in any way they can. All mentors on campus have agreed to volunteer their time to work with students in an effort to not only ensure student success, but also to boost retention efforts.
