Recruitment Holds Community Events
The Texas State Technical College Marshall Office of Recruitment held its annual Counselor Day. A total of seven counselors, many of whom had never been on the TSTC Marshall campus attended the informational event. The purpose of counselor day is to keep area high school counselors informed of programs available on the TSTC Marshall campus that may be of interest to potential TSTC Marshall students. Area schools such as Longview, Jefferson, Pine Tree, and Harleton were in attendance. The furthest school to travel in for the event was Cumby High School.
Holly Cantu kicked off the event by welcoming the visiting counselors to our campus. Christi Alderman then gave the counselors a presentation on our Developmental Education program. Natalie Strahan then gave a presentation on the GenTX program, which aims to get high school students into college. Then, Michelle Ates gave a presentation on our Dual Credit program after lunch. The event wrapped up with a campus tour given by Holly Cantu.
On March 4th from 5:30pm - 8:00pm, the Office of Recruitment will host a Financial Aid Fair in room 118 of the South Building. The Financial Aid Fair is free and open to the public. High school students wishing to attend should bring their parents’ 2012 tax return information in order to get the financial aid application process started.
Flyers were sent to more than 100 area high schools in order to advertise for the event.
The two events are aimed at helping TSTC Marshall increase enrollment by giving students pertinent information about the process to get into and pay for college.
