SGA Begins Plans for Beautification Project
The Student Government Association for TSTC Marshall is in the beginning planning phase of a campus beautification project. The SGA students voted to raise money to install a rock garden with a metal TSTC logo on the same side of the Visitor’s Entrance as the existing sun dial.
A special 5-member committee of Lakeisha Roquemore, Nathaniel Fluellen, Christie Newsome, Chandra Ray and Erin Hall are drawing up plans and contacting vendors to get pricing information.
The rock garden will be funded through the sale of bricks, which will outline the display.
“What’s most exciting about this project is to see our students really take ownership of it and get involved. I’m so very proud of these students and hope the project is a great success and not only makes our campus more beautiful but also gets support from the campus, our business and industry partners and our community,” said Baily Atchley, SGA advisor and Director of Marketing and Communications for the college.
As soon as students get a total cost of materials needed to complete the project, they will set a price on the bricks.
This will be a long term fundraiser, but the result will be a beautiful addition to our campus which will last for years to come. In addition to the SGA students working on the project, several programs have offered to step up and help this project become a reality. Special thanks to the machining department, the CAD department, the welding department, Terry Conyers, Hubert Staten, Chad Atchley, Dorothy Meadows and Wayne Dillon for guiding the students through this process.
