What happens at Orientation?

New Student Orientation begins with an overview of TSTC services and policies to help you make an easy transition to college life. This is your opportunity to receive important information about the admissions process, financial aid, business office procedures, housing, library, distance learning, the learning community and learner support services.

Most importantly, NSO provides you the opportunity to meet one-on-one with your mentor and advisor. You will receive information about your degree plan, the courses required, and available degree-specific career opportunities.

This orientation is mandatory for all new students at TSTC. New students will not be allowed to register for classes unless they attend orientation. There will also be a Parent Orientation on the same day at the same time.

On the day of New Student Orientation:

Please arrive early. All students will complete paperwork prior to the orientation session. Please bring a picture ID and your license plate number. All visitors and guests that accompany new students to NSO will be asked to attend Parent Orientation or wait in the Internet Cafe.

What are the requirements to attend New Student Orientation?

  1. Be admitted to TSTC by filling out an application.
  2. Take the TSI Assessment BEFORE orientation.
  3. Students, who are exempt from the TSI Assessment, must provide official documentation such as SAT/ACT or TAKS/STAAR scores BEFORE orientation.
  4. Register for Orientation.

New students must complete the admissions process prior to attending New Student Orientation.

What about testing requirements?

Placement test scores must be received by TSTC before a student can be advised and/or registered. If you need to test, there is an opportunity to take the TSI Assessment on campus. The fee for TSI testing is $30.00.
Tests are given on campus: Monday – Thursday beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Appointments for the TSI Assessment may be scheduled by calling 903.935.1010.
No testing is scheduled on Orientation Dates
