State District 43 Rep. Dr. Tara Rios Ybarra, D-South Padre Island, urged TSTC graduates to courageously pursue their dreams during her commencement address August 22.

"Follow your plans," she told the audience at Christian Fellowship Church. "Do not just dream of your goals; go for it. Remember that learning comes in all shapes and sizes."

Everyone occasionally faces difficult decisions about whether to follow rules or take a risk by breaking barriers to create new rules, Rep. Rios Ybarra said. Those decisions could lead to mistakes, but an error should become a learning opportunity. She told graduates to persevere and quoted former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, "Success is the ability to move from one failure to the next with enthusiasm."

 
Longview civic, business leader, former TSTC Board Chair, Jere Ruff, 73, dies

Jere Ruff was appointed by Governor Bill Clements to the Board of Regents for the Texas State Technical College (TSTC) in 1987. He served as Chairman of the Board from 1994-1995.The TSTC family mourns the loss of a great leader.

One graduation, not affected by swine flu, occurred at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Texas State Technical College's virtual college (vTSTC) in Second Life. TSTC first to offer college certificate and degree programs in Virtual World

Texas State Technical College (TSTC) will transcend traditional online education, by being the first to offer a fully-online certificate in a virtual world. Beginning fall ’08, TSTC will be offering a Digital Media certificate utilizing virtual world technology using Second Life as the primary delivery method.

The I-CAR Industry Training Alliance awarded its 50,000th I-CAR point to a student at a career and technical school or college. Kyle Palmer, a graduate of Texas State Technical College Waco and employee of Leo Martin Chevrolet in Lake Jackson, was the recipient of the 50,000th point.
