Imagine your first day coming to Texas State Technical College as a student. You’re the only student in the lab without the tools you need to start learning. Or you didn’t even make it to your first class because your car broke down on the side of the road. What if you had to choose between buying a book for your class or using the money to keep the electricity on at your house? These are real-life issues that affect our students and sometimes financial aid doesn’t cover the obstacles life throws their way.
For this reason, The TSTC Foundation was given a generous donation to establish the Stephen C. and Susan J. Snyder Helping Hands Scholarship. This scholarship awards deserving students additional aid to cover expenses other than tuition—those things that might keep a student from coming to class, from being successful in the lab, or ultimately dropping out from TSTC.
Last semester we were able to retain over 50 students through the Helping Hands Scholarship. These students were able to continue their goal of a great career with their degree from TSTC because of over $30,000 awarded to them. Imagine how many other student career goals will be fulfilled by helping them through their financial hardships.
You can help our students through the upcoming State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC). When you receive your SECC packet in October, you can choose The TSTC Foundation as one of your charities of choice. Your donation will help fund the Helping Hands Scholarship as well as other aid provided by The TSTC Foundation.
“Giving to The TSTC Foundation is giving back to our students and TSTC,” says Beth Wooten, Vice President of Institutional Advancement. “Donations to The TSTC Foundation help offset need, financial and otherwise, that aren’t fulfilled through state appropriations. Without the support of our TSTC family and private donations, we couldn’t make this happen.”
In this time of giving you will have the opportunity to affect the lives of many, including our own students. Choose The TSTC Foundation during the SECC or give now by donating directly to The TSTC Foundation online to ensure our student and instructional aid fund is fully stocked and ready to provide a “helping hand.”
