TSTC Advantage

Electricity plays a crucial role in today’s society. Just ask hospitals that depend upon it for life-saving equipment; cities that experience chaos in blackout conditions; or homebound citizens who need electricity for a vital communication link to the outside world.

At TSTC, you will gain the advantage of strong skills it will take to address these changes facing the industry. Students at TSTC practice working on many types of equipment, learning through hands-on practice what skilled professionals face every day in the workforce.

What you’ll do!

  • Practice on transformer analysis test equipment

  • Learn Programmable logic controllers

  • Become familiar with computer-aided design programs

  • Study variable frequency drives and use ground fault test equipment

TSTC’s star power prep

  • Practical hands-on skills working with actual equipment used in the industry

  • Internship opportunities for on-the-job training

  • Small class size with a strong one-on-one instructional approach

  • Experienced staff with industry training guided by an advisory board comprised of field experts

TSTC’s Electrical Power & Control faculty comes to the college with dozens of years of professional experience before becoming teachers. Collectively, these instructors bring and eclectic background to assure students received a well-rounded education that matches industry needs.

Small class size

At TSTC, our Electrical Systems classes average about 20 students per class to ensure instructors have plenty of time to work with each student.

Hands-on learning

Compared to other colleges, TSTC students spend a lot less time in the classroom and more time in work settings, utilizing the tools they will use in their profession. Students spend approximately 27 to 30 hours in the classroom, compared to other colleges, where students spend only 15 to 20 hours a week. It’s just one of the many ways TSTC ensures you get the strong training you need to succeed in your career choice.

Advisory Committee

TSTC’s strong programs match industry needs, making it easier for graduates to obtain jobs when it comes to hiring time.

How do we do this? As industry professionals, our 900-plus advisory committee members assist the college in determining the courses you study, providing a valuable advantage. They can ensure that what we teach matches what industry is seeking.

Added Value

TSTC has conferred more associate degrees than any public two-year college in the nation in Engineering-related Technologies/Technicians, according to June 2009 edition of "Community College Week." Our national reputation means more resume clout for you, as employers throughout the nation are well aware of the quality of graduates’ work.

And TSTC students get a jump on other job competitors by gaining hands-on skills working on actual projects, which provides them with experience other students don’t have.
