Brothers' game scores industry win
Mario and Alberto Huerta entered the gaming industry before graduation in August 2010.
The brothers produced and marketed Micro Invasion and Canno-Blast with the assistance of some classmates. The cyberspace games on the Xbox platform went worldwide by the end of January 2010. The Huertas received recognition from Gov. Rick Perry and development is under way on a third game.
“Mario came up with the concept for Micro Invasion when we were working on a class project,” Alberto said. “Originally, we were just going to post it on a Web site, but we decided to try the Microsoft process and get into the business.”
Micro Invasion gives a player a laser beam to “zap” robotic bugs inside a human brain. Up to four Canno-Blast players fire cannons at spiked balls to knock the balls into opponents’ cannons.
The brothers invested the income in their education. After receiving Associate of Applied Science degrees in Gaming & Simulation Programming, the profits will become business capital.
