Israel Garay

Wind Technician with Siemens in Wasco, Oregon

STEM rising starTechnician maintains energy flow

One of the wind technicians Siemens relies on to maintain turbines that supply electricity to the power grid in Oregon is 20-year-old Israel Garay, who has already been promoted to crew lead in his first six months on staff.

"I think TSTC has really helped me quickly advance as much as I have," said Garay.

“I got the overall view of what’s going on in the wind energy industry at TSTC. It gave me the fundamentals to build my career skills and learning-wise I am ahead of the curve,” he said while waiting for parts to arrive at a wind energy turbine. The equipment he services should be available for electric production at least 98.9 percent of the time.

Students and faculty helped motivate him to succeed. He added, “I learned from their experiences and I got to network with a lot of industry personnel because TSTC is a hot spot for networking.”

In the high, desert plains along the West Coast he’s looking ahead to more success. Garay already is studying the higher education options Siemens offers employees and he is interested in the engineering field.
