TSTC grad empowers GED students
Three full-time jobs as a mother, college student and an adviser to college students keep Georgeann Calzada of Harlingen moving at a fast pace.
Her 3-year-old son, Aidan, is the center of her universe. Taking classes at the University of Texas at Brownsville toward a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree in Interdisciplinary Science and working as a Pre-Tech Advisor assisting General Education Diploma students at Texas State Technical College Harlingen add to her priority list.
En route to earning an Associate of Applied Science degree from TSTC in Business / Office Technology in 2008 she became an officer for the Business Professionals of America club and then won election as Student Government Association president.
“It pays off for students to participate in extra-curricular activities due to the contacts they gain from networking and the skills they build through engaging in cooperative projects,” she said.
