TSTC Partners with The IC² Institute to Research Digital Game Technologies

Monday, July 28, 2003 - Texas State Technical College

Texas State Technical College has partnered with The IC² Institute’sDigital Media Collaboratory(DMC) at the University of Texas at Austin proposes to provide an assessment and technology forecast of the digital game/electronic entertainment industry and related technologies within the State of Texas. The assessment and forecast are meant to provide viable information about the current and emerging markets and technologies, workforce trends, and education pipelines of the Digital Game industry sector.

The report will be assembled in three sections. The first section will provide an overview of the technologies and market influences important to the Digital Game industry. Projections and trends will be provided as well as potential pitfalls. The outlook assessment will include various scenarios of growth that are dependent upon both the decisions of policy makers and economic forecasts.

The second part of the report will concentrate on the workforce development issues. From an inventory of Digital Game companies in Texas (also includes significant national and international companies to watch), current and future need job categories, prevailing salaries and wages, knowledge, skill and ability requirements and education/training pathways for both professional and non-professional positions, this section will draw out the labor market profile of the industry.

The final section will draw inferences from the data and its analysis to assess implications for technical, two-year and four-year institutions’ education and training programs to maintain and support the growth of this technology sector. Projected customer demands and specific facility and faculty requirements to support the level of education and training programs required by the industry will be detailed.

The final publication is scheduled for September of 2003 and will be available for free at the TSTC PET web site www.forecasting.tstc.edu
