Agricultural Aviation

Texas State Technical College (TSTC) Waco Workforce Development's all-encompassing Agricultural Aircraft flight training programs can help you get the skills you need to join that elite aviation industry sector of agriculture aviation. The curriculum includes introductory and advanced training sections.

Introductory Training

The introductory phase is designed to give you the opportunity to see what everyday ag flying is all about. The training for the Agricultural Aircraft Operations Training Program* takes place in two phases over the 16-week.

First, you are introduced to flying tail wheel aircraft in the L19 Birddog. This platform acts as a challenging trainer, unlike a Piper Cub or other trainers, so that you master the operation of tail wheel aircraft from day one. Along with tail wheel training, you are introduced to basic agricultural flying operations, including agriculture turns, basic ferrying and field surveying—skills that establish a strong foundation for the advanced stage of training.

Advanced Training

Upon completion of the introductory phase of your agriculture flight training, expectations increase in the advanced phase, in which you will be required to master the skills required of agriculture pilots every day.

Training includes practical application of reloading operations, safe piloting around obstacles like power lines and wires, and determining the safest and most efficient application method. With the end goal of making you immediately employable from your graduation date, your instruction staff will consistently mold you into a safe operator. When your training in this stage is complete, you will be given a graduation check ride. In this check ride you will be considered your own operator and have to demonstrate to the chief pilot that you truly have what it takes to join that elite aviation industry sector of agriculture aviation.
