Military Man

Step 1: Complete the Application for Admission
Whether you are a first-time college student or a transfer student, you must fill out an online application for admission.

Step 2: Provide "Official" Transcripts and Test Scores
Only “Official” transcripts will be accepted. Transcripts may be sent directly from the college/university to:

Note: Should you receive your transcripts directly, they must be submitted to TSTC West Texas in the sealed envelope.

If you would like TSTC West Texas to consider any of your military training and/or course work for possible transfer credit, you must submit official military transcripts for evaluation. Military transcripts with ACE recommendations help expedite the process.

You must also provide your DD-214 Form. Copies of your DD-214 Form can be requested through your state Veterans Administration office or through the National Archive and Records Administration.

Step 3: Verify Your Benefits
Service members may qualify for multiple programs, such as:

  • Service-related Tuition Assistance
  • Montgomery GI Bill Benefits
  • Post 9/11 GI Bill Benefits
  • Veterans Administration Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Veterans Education Assistance Program Benefits
  • State Funded Veterans Educational Assistance
  • Texas Hazlewood Exemption
  • Reserve Educational Assistance (REAP)
  • Survivors & Dependents Assistance (DEA)

Step 4: Apply for Financial Aid

Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This aid can be for grants, loans, and/or work-study. You can receive financial aid in addition to your VA benefits.

Step 5: Apply for Scholarships
There are many types of scholarships available. See available scholarships. Note: Never pay for a scholarship application.

Step 6: Work with your Admissions Advisor
Your TSTC West Texas appointed Admissions Advisor will work with you to ensure your application and associated requirements/documentation are fully completed. They will assist you in developing a viable educational plan.

Career Placement Services - TSTC West Texas provides full career and job placement services such as:

  • Help locating a job or internship
  • Resume Writing
  • Cover Letters
  • Mock Interviews

College Level Examination Program (CLEP) - These exams test your knowledge in specific areas and may assist in turning on-the-job training into college credit. Official scores must be submitted for consideration.

DANTES "Credit-By-Exam" is a program that gives you the opportunity to demonstrate college-level achievement through a program of exams in undergraduate college courses.
