A hallmark moment in TSTC’s history was Camp TSTC, a coming together of leaders from across four colleges to create more than a camaraderie—a commitment to each other—that TSTC is stronger together. Since then, Camp TSTC has evolved, many people have come and gone, but the colleges’ commitment to each other is stronger than ever. The State of Texas is stronger when TSTC is united, speaks with one voice, when resources are shared, when we’ve “got each other’s back.” Whether we’re working together to respond to Texas’ training needs or help a sister college after a storm, we’re at our best when we’re one college, one TSTC.
As our team matured, we began to see the value in challenging the status quo as we seek to transform higher education. We challenged the comfort of traditional organization models and began to explore what life might be like out on the Edge*. This launched a new era welcoming risk taking, innovation, acceptance of failure, championing initiative, and being supportive and responsive to individual needs.

We went to the Edge. Then we took the Leap. Radical thinking, Unconventional strategies and Bizarre solutions (RUB) were the call to action. We became intentional about shifting from activity-focused to success-focused, from governance to leadership, and from bureaucracy to business. We became fully invested in adopting mass collaboration as a new way to work and a new world for distributing learning.
