(HUTTO, Texas) – Texas State Technical College in Williamson County hosted the Hutto Regional of the Texas High School Welding Series for the third consecutive year at the East Williamson County Higher Education Center.
A total of 142 students from 17 high schools competed, testing their skills across four competition levels.
“This competition brings students into our shop around our equipment and instructors, so they can picture what welding at TSTC is like,” said Kay Lehman, welding program team lead at TSTC in Williamson County. “They get to see our facilities up close and what a college shop environment feels like. It’s a great way to introduce students to the opportunities that exist in welding after graduation.”
Top finishers had the opportunity to earn scholarships from industry partners. Among them was Charlie Dendy, a senior from Canyon Lake High School, who earned first place in Level 1.
“It means a lot. I’ve worked hard for over three years,” Dendy said. “Staying after school constantly, pretty much every week.”
The state competition will be held on the TSTC campus in Abilene May 7-8.
