High school seniors commit to TSTC during National CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day

(ABILENE, Texas) – Texas State Technical College welcomed 27 high school seniors who committed to a technical education during National CTE (career and technical education) Letter of Intent Signing Day on Thursday, April 20.

TSTC joined colleges from across the country to honor seniors who pledged to receive a technical education. At TSTC’s Industrial Technology Center in Abilene, students who committed to attend TSTC campuses in Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood, Sweetwater and Waco were greeted by faculty and staff members.

“You all have chosen to continue your path to a great-paying career through technical education and training,” said Gabrielle Mallet, TSTC’s associate provost of the Sweetwater campus. “Students today are joining a legacy of more than 100,000 graduates across our 10 locations. Now our job is to train these students on the technical and employable skills needed for the growing workforce demands in Texas.”

Instructors from the students’ committed programs welcomed them to TSTC while watching them sign letters of intent.

Ismael Islas, a senior at Roscoe Collegiate High School, is not a stranger to TSTC’s Automotive Technology lab. He is a current dual enrollment student who plans to continue his education by studying for an Associate of Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology.

“This is a pretty special day for me,” he said. “I will become a full-time college student, with many opportunities available for me. After I complete my associate degree, I plan to continue my studies with TSTC in the Tesla START Technician program in Waco.”

Adrianna Herrera Sauceda, of Abilene, committed to study Digital Media Design. She was excited to see TSTC welcome her during the signing day event.

“Today means a lot to me. I told my dad about it, and he was excited for me to sign to attend TSTC,” she said. “I want to become a comic book artist, and this will help me reach my potential.”

Daniel Martin, TSTC’s director of student recruitment in West Texas, said hosting the National CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day was the perfect way to spotlight students.

“Today was a great day because TSTC welcomed the future of our workforce, and (they will) receive the best technical education in the state,” he said.
