Nine Tesla employees have graduated from a 10-month accelerated maintenance training program at Texas State Technical College (TSTC) in Williamson County. Co-designed by Tesla and TSTC, the paid program helps internal employees transition from production roles into high-skilled maintenance technician positions, strengthening Central Texas's advanced manufacturing workforce.
(HUTTO, Texas) – Nine Tesla employees recently completed a 10-month accelerated maintenance training program at Texas State Technical College in Williamson County, advancing from production roles toward maintenance technician positions through curriculum co-designed by the vehicle manufacturer and TSTC.
The curriculum was developed through a partnership, with training in electrical systems, motor controls and pneumatics.
For graduate Andrew, a maintenance technician in Tesla’s stamping department, the program provided the technical foundation he previously lacked.

“TSTC has equipped me with the basic knowledge and skills in many areas needed to succeed,” Andrew said. “The multitude of training equipment we used was invaluable and really helped me retain information as a hands-on learner.”
Beyond the equipment, Andrew credited TSTC instructors’ real-world expertise for bridging the gap between theory and the shop floor.
“From giving real-life experiences they’ve had in their maintenance careers to walking through specific troubleshooting examples, these instructors made it clear why we were learning the material,” Andrew said.
The program offers Tesla employees an opportunity to advance their careers while continuing to earn a paycheck, which was a critical factor for Andrew, who had long aspired to be an engineer but faced financial barriers to traditional schooling.

“To be able to get paid to go back to school really is a dream come true,” Andrew said. “I felt my brain was underutilized in previous roles, but now I’m on the way to becoming a full-fledged technician with a great technical knowledge base.”
Andrew and his classmates participated in TSTC’s recent Spring 2026 Commencement held at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor. The graduation marked a milestone in a collaboration focused on internal talent development.
“We partnered closely with Tesla to identify the precise skills, equipment and competencies required in their operations,” said Karla Perez, accelerated training solutions manager at TSTC. “This program demonstrates that investing in people creates upward mobility, strengthens retention and helps employers build highly skilled talent from within their own workforce.”
Andrew also noted that the program’s emphasis on teamwork mirrored the realities of the field.
“The instructors let us help each other as a team, many great minds coming together to find the best solution,” Andrew said, adding that communication skills are “extremely valuable” in the industry.

By combining technical instruction with hands-on, team-based problem-solving, the training model helps strengthen the Central Texas manufacturing workforce and supports employers seeking to grow talent from within. The effort also reflects the region’s growing role in advanced manufacturing, with Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas in Austin serving as the company’s global headquarters and U.S. manufacturing hub.
