(WACO, Texas) – More than 500 high school seniors officially committed to Texas State Technical College on Thursday, April 16, as part of the National NC3 CTE (career and technical education) Letter of Intent Signing Day.
TSTC hosted events at campuses and locations throughout the state, including Abilene, Fort Bend County, Harlingen, Marshall, New Braunfels, North Texas, Sweetwater, Waco and Williamson County.
Mirroring the excitement of collegiate athletic signing events, these ceremonies allowed seniors to highlight their decision to attend the state’s only technical college and pursue high-demand career paths.
“National Signing Day gives us an opportunity to celebrate all of the students choosing to pursue their future as valuable health care professionals, specialists and technicians in the state of Texas,” said Christine Stuart-Carruthers, TSTC’s vice chancellor of enrollment management. “We can’t wait to welcome them to the TSTC family and help them start their journey towards creating a strong future.”
According to the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3), the event began in 2014 at Washburn University Institute of Technology. It serves as a celebration of technical education, honoring students entering a technical field while emphasizing the importance of their career choice.
Since the inaugural event involved just one school in 2014, the movement has grown significantly. To date, more than 120 community colleges, 850 high schools, and 40,000 students have participated nationwide.
