(RED OAK, Texas) – The TSTC Foundation recently received a $10,000 donation from Holcim Inc. for the purchase of 13 toolkits to be used by the Industrial Systems program at Texas State Technical College’s North Texas campus.

The toolkits will provide most of the tools that an entry-level technician would need, including wrench and screwdriver sets, a punch set, a Milwaukee multimeter, and more.

Christopher Nickelson, a second-semester Industrial Systems student, expressed gratitude for the donation.

“We’re very grateful for their generosity,” he said.

Four Holcim representatives visited TSTC’s North Texas campus on Monday, April 3, to officially present the donation.

One Holcim representative, Lonny Wakeland, commented on the partnership that Holcim has with TSTC and pointed out two of the representatives who are TSTC graduates and who had held internships with Holcim before becoming full-time employees.

Wakeland also commented on the ability of TSTC students and his hope that the donation will help recruit more students to the program.

“TSTC students seem to have a good grasp on the understanding of the basics,” he said. “Hopefully (the donation) will help to entice more students, to bring them on.”

Jarriet Durham, lead instructor for the North Texas campus’ Industrial Systems program, said he appreciates the donation and the positive impact it will have on student success.

“I’m very appreciative of any industry partner, whether they’ve donated money, donated tools or they’re giving our students opportunities for employment,” he said. “It means the world to me because all of that adds up to the success of our students here at TSTC, as well as the success of TSTC as a whole. It’s an invaluable donation and gesture.”
