Admission Requirements
- Completion of all admission requirements to Texas State Technical College.
- Submit official high school and college transcripts from previously attended schools to the office of admissions.
- Applicants are required to take a placement test (TSI assessment) unless otherwise exempted. For information about exemptions or testing, contact the Admissions and Records office at 956-364-4319.
- Students must have a Social Security number to obtain employment and admission into the program.
- Applicants must have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA.
- Completed financial aid application. Complete the “Free Application for Federal Student Aid” (FAFSA) for a Pell Grant and other financial aid. You must contact the financial aid office for more information on other grants, scholarships, student loans or sponsoring agencies such as WIA or DARS. Veterans should contact a VA officer on their local campus.
Admission to the Surgical Technology Program
Admission to the Surgical Technology Program will be based upon prior academic performance, related experience, complete application packet, and scores on placement exams. The following describes the criteria applicants must meet in order to apply to the Surgical Technology Program:
- Be complete with semester 1 of the Surgical Technology degree plan before applying to the program.
- Must have a minimum of a 2.0 Grade Point Average and have a minimum of a “C” or better in academic courses to be accepted.
- Have a Social Security Number to obtain employment and admission into the program.
- Accepted students must be able to complete the minimum 120 clinical cases requirement to graduate.
- Meeting all the requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

Students interested in learning more about the Surgical Technology Program, please attend an information session to meet with a Surgical Technology program advisor.
