Thank you for your interest in the Health Information Technology program at Texas State Technical College Harlingen. As a student at TSTC Harlingen, you will be awarded endless opportunities to fulfill your educational goals. TSTC is constantly evolving and providing programs to compete with the specialized fields of the working world. TSTC Harlingen offers Associate of Applied Science Degrees in Health Information. Graduates of the program can have career opportunities that offer a sense of responsibility, personal growth, achievement and financial reward.

The health information management profession focuses on health care data and the management of health care information resources. TSTC’s HIT students learn skills in both classroom and laboratory settings. Skills are practiced in health care facilities during two directed practice courses.

Graduates of this program are prepared to work in a variety of facilities, such as hospitals, clinics, physicians' offices, managed care organizations, long term care facilities, behavioral health facilities, ambulatory care facilities, and rehabilitation centers. They are trained in numerous areas such as medical coding, utilization management, medical statistics, release of information, health record analysis, quality assurance abstracting, and health record consulting. Graduates may take the National Certification Examination to become a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
