(NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas) –Texas State Technical College’s New Braunfels campus hosted the New Braunfels Regional of the Texas High School Welding Series on Friday, March 13.
A total of 122 students from 20 high schools competed in four different competitions, showcasing welding techniques and hands-on abilities needed in the industry. The event gave students a chance to demonstrate industry-relevant skills, learn more about training opportunities at TSTC’s New Braunfels campus and potentially earn industry-recognized welding certification.

“It gives students a reason to come out and test their skills, but also a chance to see the campus if they have not been able to attend a campus visit,” said Eric Pesak, executive director of the Texas High School Welding Series.
The event marked the first time the series was held at TSTC’s New Braunfels campus, giving students in the area a closer opportunity to compete and visit the college.
“It’s great for the local community, and it’s great for the local schools,” said John McGee, TSTC’s director of alignment for welding.

Colorado ISD’s Adolfo Duenez won first place in level 4 and said he was surprised to earn the honor.
“It means that all the hard work, all the welding and all the time I’ve put into these events paid off,” Duenez said.

The top competitors were awarded prizes, including hoods, lenses and gloves.
