(HUTTO, Texas) – For the first time in the campus’ history, Texas State Technical College’s Williamson County campus hosted an industry job fair for its students and alumni. About 100 students met with around 20 company representatives on Thursday, Oct. 30.
“It was great to talk to these companies and hear exactly what they’re looking for,” said Regina Decuire, a TSTC in Williamson County welding student. “It makes you know what next steps to take.”
Multiple students from TSTC’s New Braunfels campus also attended the event, driving themselves or boarding a bus to make the trek to Hutto to get the opportunity to see how different companies work.
“I think it’s wonderful being able to come and talk to people that represent these jobs around here,” said Craig Jonas, a welding student at the New Braunfels campus. “It’s definitely a new experience for me. It’s the first time I’ve been to anything like this.”
Company representatives were enthralled with the turnout. Tesla’s recruiter Wayne Harris brought 200 flyers but ran out before the event was even half over.
“It seems like they got a lot of outreach not only to the campus out here but also to the campus in New Braunfels,” said Harris. “It’s been super exciting to talk to a lot of these kids.”
Company representatives walked away impressed with the students they talked to. They understand the talent TSTC can and has manufactured.
“It’s just knowing that TSTC is a phenomenal institution,” said Harris. “Knowing that they produce some amazing students. Knowing that when we can bring in that talent and know they’re going to be the future of Tesla, there’s no hesitation, there’s no doubt that we’re going to continue to grow as a company because we’re bringing in that type of talent.”
Students and companies were thrilled with the job fair, but the idea is to have more in the future.
“I think this is a great start, but we want to see this double in size as soon as possible,” said Hunter Henry, TSTC’s employee relations manager. “We’re going to do this every spring and fall. We’re looking forward to watching this grow.”
