(ROSENBERG, Texas) – It was an eventful afternoon on Friday, Nov. 21, as Texas State Technical College’s Fort Bend County campus held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of the new Transportation Technologies Center.
Mike Reeser, TSTC’s chancellor and CEO, gave a speech commemorating the experience and history that led TSTC to the present day.
“The vision of what we do is manifested in this new building,” Reeser said. “We focus on the big, heavy-duty jobs that are at the core of Texas power.”
TSTC was allocated funding through the Capital Construction Assistance Projects under Senate Bill 52 during the 87th Texas legislative session in 2021 for the facility, which cost more than $35 million. The new building houses the Automotive, Automotive Collision and Management, and expanded Diesel Equipment programs.
The Automotive program has two pathways, an associate degree and certificate, both of which focus on internal maintenance on a variety of vehicles from small sedans to large trucks. Auto Collision and Management has two associate degrees, one focusing on outer-body repairs, the other on refinishing, along with a certificate of completion. Diesel Equipment retained the Heavy Truck specialization associate degree and certificate while adding an Off-Highway degree option.
In attendance at the event were local government officials, TSTC leaders, staff and faculty, The TSTC Foundation representatives, the George Foundation and the Henderson-Wessendorff Foundation representatives and local industry partners.
“Many of us were here for the groundbreaking when it was nothing more than a dream,” said Bryan Bowling, provost of TSTC’s Fort Bend County campus. “Now we stand among that dream. Isn’t she beautiful?”
