WACO, Texas – Texas State Technical College (TSTC) welcomes Governor Greg Abbott’s appointment of Frank Denton to the TSTC Board of Regents and the reappointments of Kathy A. Powell Stewart and Ron Widup. Denton took the oath of office at the board’s most recent quarterly meeting, officially beginning his service on the TSTC Board of Regents.

Denton brings decades of leadership experience to the TSTC System Board of Regents. His strong commitment to public service and workforce development will support the college’s mission of preparing Texans for in-demand careers.

“Having had a previous association with TSTC, I consider it a true honor to be affiliated with such a fine group of people dedicated to placing students in high paying jobs in Texas,” said Denton. “I look forward to the opportunity to see where I can make a contribution to the organization.”

Denton is president and owner of Denton Investment Corporation and Lube Time, Inc. He has served as chair of the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE), chairman of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), and as a member of the Texas Medical Board. Denton also is a former board member of the Texas Association of Business and former chair of its small business committee.

“The Regents that Governor Abbott provides for TSTC have a history of being outstanding individuals with extensive experience. Frank is no exception. His work at both TDLR and TSBPE will be especially helpful as he participates in governance at TSTC,” said Mike Reeser, TSTC’s chancellor and CEO. “We also appreciate the continued service of Regents Kathy Stewart and Ron Widup, whose leadership and dedication have helped advance TSTC’s impact across Texas.”

The TSTC Board of Regents provides strategic oversight for a statewide college system that serves students through industry-driven programs designed to meet the workforce needs of Texas employers. As a regent, Denton will help guide decisions that support student success, strengthen industry partnerships and ensure TSTC remains responsive to emerging workforce demands.

Governor Abbott’s announcement also included the reappointments of Stewart and Widup, whose continued service provides stability and institutional knowledge as TSTC expands opportunities for Texans seeking high-demand careers.

Stewart has been a strong advocate for workforce education and student achievement during her tenure on the board. Widup has contributed significant industry expertise and leadership experience, helping support TSTC’s efforts to align educational programs with employer needs across the state.

Together, Denton, Stewart and Widup will help guide TSTC as it continues its mission of placing more Texans in great-paying jobs and supporting the economic growth of communities throughout the state.
