Group of people in a line

(ABILENE, Texas) – Four Texas State Technical College employees, representing two West Texas campuses, were presented with the Chancellor’s Cornerstone Award on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Recipients from Sweetwater were Joni Coons, the senior coordinator of residence life, Ty Liedtke, an Automotive instructor, and Monica Wagner, executive director of facilities. Alana Hefner, vice president of career services, represented the Brownwood campus.

This annual award recognizes TSTC employees who exemplify TSTC’s core values of excellence, accountability, integrity and service. Employees of each campus submit nominations which are reviewed and forwarded to Mike Reeser, the college’s chancellor and CEO, who makes the final decision.

“At the heart of TSTC’s success is the exceptional quality of our people,” Reeser said. “Within that remarkable team are individuals who consistently go above and beyond, and this award recognizes and celebrates those people.”

Coons has been with TSTC for 37 years, starting as an Emergency Medical Services instructor and moving up the ranks to her current position.

“I am so happy to receive this honor because it comes from the people I call friends,” Coons said.

Liedtke has been an Automotive instructor for three years. He can be seen around campus helping at events while also working with students in the lab.

“I am honored and humbled. I am beyond disbelief that someone I work with thinks this much of me,” he said.

Wagner is a 20-year veteran of TSTC, and in addition to her responsibilities in the facilities department, she is an adjunct instructor for the Building Construction program in Sweetwater.

“I am so happy to be recognized by teammates. I am joining an excellent group of TSTC employees who have received this award,” she said.

Hefner, who has been with TSTC for three years, has been instrumental in developing new partnerships with industries in the region, and across the state.

“I was shocked when I learned I received this honor. I am proud to call TSTC my home,” she said.
