About the courses

Registered Dental Assistant

The purpose of this course is to familiarize students with all areas of administrative and clinical dental assisting, focusing on the responsibilities required to function as a registered dental assistant.

  • This course has been approved by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners to meet the requirements set forth by the Texas legislature for Registered Dental Assistants. The course has been designed to meet the essential didactic requirements, as well as incorporating clinical training to prepare the applicant for the Registered Dental Assistant Exam and the skills necessary for a dental assistant.
  • Content: Infection control, dental anatomy, radiology, basic chair-side dental assisting, dental materials, and ethics.
  • Format: In-person lecture and in-person labs (on-site clinical training)
  • Mondays & Wednesdays: Students attend class sessions for 10 weeks (5 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

Specific Course Learning Outcomes

  • Apply OSHA, bloodborne pathogen, chemical safety, and infection-control principles in a dental setting.
  • Identify oral and facial anatomy, tooth numbering, surfaces, and dental terminology.
  • Safely capture dental X-rays and panoramic images using appropriate radiographic techniques.
  • Recognize common oral structures, dental materials, and pathologies on dental radiographs.
  • Demonstrate proper patient intake, including greeting, seating, medical histories, vital signs, and dismissal.
  • Prepare and handle common dental materials, cements, bonding agents, and anesthetic syringes.
  • Take impressions and fabricate tooth-whitening trays.
  • Explain dental disease prevention, including proper brushing and flossing techniques.
  • Recognize common dental-office medical emergencies and appropriate response procedures.
  • Prepare a professional resume and participate in a mock interview.

  • Testing fees, Insurance, Consumables/PPE (Students much purchase their own scrubs.)

Test Information:

  • Upon completion of the program, students will take the Registered Dental Assistant Exam, the exam will be administered on-site.

 


Dental Assistant Registration

This course is designed for practicing Dental Assistants seeking to advance their professional credentials and become Registered Dental Assistants. The course provides focused instruction and hands-on preparation in essential RDA skills, including infection control, radiography, and applicable rules and regulations. Participants will review the key competencies and requirements necessary to pursue RDA registration.

Cohort Size: up to 10

Program Length: 8 hours (1 day)

Cost: $165

Includes:

  • Instruction, Examination fees, Certificate, Official TSTC completion documentation

Requirements:

  • Signed program acknowledgment
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Copy of Social Security card
  • Complete Accelerated Training Solutions Application

Test Information:

  • Upon completion of the program, students will take the RDA registration exam.
