(HUTTO, Texas) – Graduation ceremonies are not just for the students — they are for the families too, especially the mothers this time of year.
Texas State Technical College’s Williamson County campus celebrated 18 graduates on Wednesday, May 7, during its spring commencement ceremony held at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor. Among the proudest attendees were the graduates’ mothers.
Carrie Beran’s son, Braeden Beran, graduated with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Precision Machining Technology. She said that although it was not her first TSTC graduation, this time she had come ready to cheer.
“Braeden already graduated from TSTC with a degree in Welding Technology,” she said. “I am a proud mom. For this graduation we brought signs and cowbells.”
Barbarah McClain drove almost seven hours from Mission to watch her daughter, Lori Fitzgerald, receive her Associate of Applied Science degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling.
“I am very proud of Lori,” McClain said. “She was a single mother when she started school again. She also manages a bookstore full time and did that the entire time she was in school.”
Fitzgerald said her own daughter was in the audience to support her as well.
“I have my mother here, and I am a mother graduating tonight,” Fitzgerald said. “I chose this field because chemical dependency has impacted my family. I’m looking forward to doing positive things.”
