(ROSENBERG, Texas) – Sometimes sacrifice can make the rewards all the sweeter.
Such is the case for Dario Lozano, a third-semester student in Texas State Technical College’s HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) Technology program. Living in Willis, Lozano makes an hour-and-a-half commute each morning and evening when he has classes at TSTC’s Fort Bend County campus.
Why? Because he loves what he is learning.
“There are colleges closer to where I live, but TSTC was well known for its HVAC program,” Lozano said. “When I went to tour each of them, this school is the one that stood out to me.”
He is currently working toward his associate degree, hoping to find a job and career in the field, but this is not the first time that he will have entered the workforce. Prior to deciding to attend TSTC, Lozano worked as an insurance agent. But he found that sitting at his desk each day was not really what he wanted to do.
“I wanted to do more hands-on work,” he said. “A family member recommended I look into HVAC.”
Lozano is currently learning more about the electronics behind both industrial and commercial air conditioning. As he learns more, he finds that his desire to learn grows.
“I don’t mind the drive in since I’m coming in and learning, not wasting my time,” he said. “I try to help out others as well to understand more than I could otherwise.”
For anyone searching for a good career, Lozano said he recommends looking into HVAC.
“If you want to get straight into work, HVAC can get you there quick,” he said. “If you are more hands-on and want demanding work, there’s no better place.”
In addition to TSTC’s Fort Bend County campus, HVAC Technology is available at the college’s Abilene, Harlingen, North Texas, Waco and Williamson County campuses.
The program is one of the college’s Money-Back Guarantee programs in which tuition is refunded if the participating graduate has not received a job offer in their field of study within six months after graduation. For more information, visit tstc.edu/mbg.
