(MARSHALL, Texas) – Brooke Schenck, the manager for the office of contact administration for Texas State Technical College, was recently honored with the Chancellor’s Cornerstone Award.
“It was very humbling to me,” she said. “You don’t think of how other people perceive your work, so knowing that someone saw enough in me to put my name forward, it was probably the most meaningful part.”
This annual award recognizes TSTC employees who exemplify TSTC’s core values of excellence, accountability, integrity and service. Employees of each campus submit nominations which are reviewed and forwarded to Mike Reeser, the college’s chancellor and CEO, who makes the final decision.
“At the heart of TSTC’s success is the exceptional quality of our people,” Reeser said. “Within that remarkable team are individuals who consistently go above and beyond, and this award recognizes and celebrates those people.”
Schenck, of Harleton, recently celebrated her 14th anniversary with TSTC. She was originally hired as a buyer in procurement and worked her way up over the years.
“It’s hard sometimes to separate my personal life from the place I’ve essentially grown up in my entire adulthood,” she said. “The people I work with, these people are my family, and this is my home.”
Schenck described her team of six as a behind-the-scenes department that handles everything from processing contracts to planning the Marshall campus’ Diesel Power Technologies Center two years ago.
“Whether it’s a partnership, a building, a new program, anything, we buy the equipment for it, we construct it, we generate that partnership, and I get to see all the success from it, even when other people might not realize what all it took to get there,” she said. “It’s a privilege to call this the job that I get to show up and do every day.”
Schenck was presented the award during a luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
“I hold a high standard for myself and for others, and I genuinely want to see people, the organization and TSTC succeed,” she said. “It has been exciting over the years to watch it continue to grow and expand.”
