New Braunfels TSTC

(NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas) -Texas State Technical College’s New Braunfels location will offer two new technical programs this fall.

Certificates of completion will be available there in Industrial Systems Mechanic – Electrical and in Structural Welding.

“The main excitement is getting out in the community and promoting the programs,” said Mike Anderson, TSTC’s vice president of operations at the New Braunfels location. “We see a lot of momentum there. It has been very well received.”

Joshua Schneuker, executive director of the Seguin Economic Development Corp., said the city looks to support big-name companies moving to the Austin and San Antonio areas. Some of the city’s targeted industries include automotive and semiconductors.

The pool of qualified labor is one of the topics discussed in location talks, Schneuker said. He said there is always a need for new people with industry certifications and specific skills to enter the workforce.

“With TSTC here … it is only going to help strengthen our existing workforce development ecosystem and strengthen our marketing efforts to prospective companies to be able to tell them we have an institution like TSTC in our backyard,” Schneuker said.

Edward Chaney, TSTC’s director of alignment for Industrial Systems, said companies focused on manufacturing drove the need for offering more technical training.

Chaney said Industrial Systems students will be immersed in theory and hands-on work.

“For anyone willing to get into industrial maintenance or manufacturing, this is a good stepping stone for a great career,” he said.

The new technical programs come after the August 2023 start of the Associate of Applied Science degree in Industrial Systems – Advanced Manufacturing Technology program. This degree is provided through a partnership with TSTC and the Texas Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (TX FAME) Lone Star Chapter.

TSTC in New Braunfels is located at 2189 FM 758 next to the New Braunfels National Airport.

The fall semester begins Tuesday, Sept. 3. For more information on TSTC, go to tstc.edu
