The event is required for all new incoming TSTC students who have registered for fall 2022 courses.
Amanda Posada, TSTC’s interim Harlingen campus provost and statewide dual enrollment executive director, said she is thrilled that these new students chose TSTC to begin their college journey.
“TSTC is the best choice for these students because we are invested in preparing them for successful careers,” Posada said. “They are joining a college with a strong technical education foundation. TSTC instructors will prepare them for the workforce and a better life for them and their families.”
Rebeca Villanueva-Hernandez, TSTC’s enrollment executive in Harlingen, said the TSTC enrollment coaches are eager to give the students an engaging experience.
“More than 90 students have registered for the event. Students will have the opportunity to make connections and experience TSTC for themselves,” Villanueva-Hernandez said. “We want the students to become comfortable with the campus and the support services we offer, such as the cafeteria and the Advocacy and Resource Center. They will also take a tour of different buildings.”
Villanueva-Hernandez added that the orientation will also cover online resources.
“Students will learn about Canvas, which is how they will access class lectures, assignments and other resources,” she said. “They will learn about retention services that can provide support for life-based needs. They will also be informed that it is a must to register early for future semesters. Also, connecting frequently with their enrollment coach is essential for a great TSTC experience.”
The event will be held at the TSTC Welcome Center, which is located at 2424 Boxwood St. on the Harlingen campus.
